Expert in Design Leadership & Building Regulation Compliance
With more than 21 years of architectural experience across London, Teddy Laurence provides creative design alongside meticulous regulatory oversight. As a Chartered RIBA Architect and appointed Principal Designer for Higher-Risk Building (HRB) projects and British Safety Regulation submissions, he ensures that every project is not only visually compelling but also safe, efficient, and aligned with the UK’s statutory requirements.
Holding both a Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture and a Master’s in Sustainable Design, Teddy is a London architect that bridges academic knowledge with hands-on expertise. This dual foundation means each commission benefits from strong design vision as well as robust compliance with UK Building Regulations and the CDM 2015 framework.
About the Role of Principal Designer
Under UK law, construction projects involving more than one contractor must appoint a Principal Designer. The role of a principal designer is planning, managing, monitoring, and coordinating design-stage health and safety during the pre-construction phase.
For example, in one of our projects we explored the complexities of statutory pathways in detail — Licence to Alter in a Higher-Risk Building. We also highlight why structural expertise is so important in HRB work in Structural Engineers for BSR Applications.
